Germans cheer World Cup team, much like any other country, Jeff MacGregor writes - ESPN:
...
"I've been in Germany a few weeks now, knocking around Munich and Berlin. Munich, trim and tidy as a Chamber-of-Commerce diorama, is as prosperous as any major city anywhere. It is a big, shiny engine of money and opportunity and rational middle-class convention. Berlin on the other hand -- wide in the slats, blowsy and profane -- is an energizing and beautiful ruin, an extravagant testament to new freedom and old horror, to graffiti and to appetite, to art and moral collapse, genius and cheap wine, and was famously described not so long ago by its own mayor as 'poor but sexy.'"
